Think: blankets, hot cocoa, books and fireplace

The past few years has seen an increase in the awareness of “hygge” lifestyle, a concept originated from the Danish. Pronouced “hoo-ga”, it can be translated as: “the feeling of cozy contentment and well-being through enjoying the simple things in life”.

In the new year, most of us get aggressive and full-fledged into our resolution goals and promise ourselves a rather active lifestyle; but I am severely opposed to such ideas – in other words, I believe in the good life – which can also be interpreted as perhaps being rather lazy. In all honesty, I believe it comes down to happiness. We live in a world that is so fast paced, competitive and morals are so easily thrown away, we often forget the essence of life and how beautiful it can be.

I have been through enough ups and downs to be grateful and conscious of the fact that: A. I am alive, healthy and fit; B. I am surrounded by a safety net of family and friends; and C. I have an education that helps me stand on my own two feet. These three simple reminders are enough for me to keep on smiling, laughing and moving on in life. The outside world around us is cruel and mean and it’s very easy to be swayed in those directions – and hence, choosing the right people around you is vital.

And so, I feel there is no better time than now to introduce “The Hygge Series” at Kitchen Therapy.

This month of January 2019, I am going to follow exactly this – taking it easy and being comforted in the simple joys of life, surrounded by good food and friends! The next round of recipes all fall in line with the concept – simple, easy, comforting, soothing and bringing joy to my life.
