Matcha and I do not particularly have a great love affair – it’s perhaps better defined as a crush on a movie star – great to be love-struck from far, but upon closer look and conversation, things simply fall apart. I always try out things with matcha in it – lattes, cheesecakes, teas and so on, and I end up with walking away from it within the first bite / sip.

But, I truly am a glutton when it comes to bread, and when Riddhi Patel of Le Artisan Boulangerie showed me this loaf it was very hard to resist. A few bites into a slice, I ended up devouring half the loaf. This was that good. And can we talk about this colour? This colour is simply gorgeous and a sandwich in this bread is even better.

Because of this delightful colour I decided it deserved decadent toppings without much fuss – enter chocolate, almond butter, pomegranates and sea salt!

This tartine requires just a few smatterings about et voila, you’ve just produced something tasty and beautiful!

Matcha Sourdough by: Le Artisan Boulangerie

The Recipe
Serves 1

Ingredients

  • 2 slices Matcha Sourdough
  • 2 tbsp Almond butter
  • 2 tbsp Chocolate spread
  • Pomegranate arils
  • Toasted almond flakes
  • Sea salt

Instructions

  • Toast the two slices lightly on a non-stick pan.
  • Spread the almond butter and chocolate spread on each slice and swirl with a toothpick.
  • Sprinkle pomegranate flakes on top.
  • Finally add the toasted almond flakes and sea salt.
