Hot Rice with Chilli Eggs

I saw this on Instagram and never realized that a dish I basically lived on is a TikTok / reel trend! So here I am, sharing something too basic, but it seems it did need sharing!

It’s a couple of eggs fried in an intense chili oil with some soya sauce and sesame seeds – fried to a glorious hue – with rice that is piping hot with a dash of butter and soya sauce giving you a pack full of flavour – an intense love affair!

The Recipe


  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp chili sauce
  • 1 tbsp soya sauce - dark
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup cooked rice – hot
  • 1 tsp butter
  • 1 tsp light soya sauce
  • toasted sesame seeds


  • Heat a small pan with the oil, chili sauce and cook until it sizzles
  • Then add the soya sauce and some sesame seeds and crack two eggs
  • Let them cook and crisp the edges up
  • Meanwhile, place the hot rice on the coupe plate
  • Put a small nob of butter on top and a little soya sauce
  • Place the fried eggs on top and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds
  • Eat!
