Never Say Never: Part Deux

Never Say Never: Part Deux

It seems the most part of 2018 is set to be a series of challenges with new horizons and a constant mode of self-discovery.

So far, in my consultancy career span, I have dabbled with a variety of cuisines and clients, but the one that I refrained from publicising is my hometown regional food – Gujarati, for no apparent reason other than I wanted different. So when India Food Network suggested this for the new series, a part of my heart sank – destiny has a funny way of weaving into ironic situations. Those close to me spent the next few minutes cackling away at the irony of my life… mais que sera, sera…

Of course, cooking Gujarati dishes is in my blood, and yes, I do eat it, contrary to popular opinion – so in my head this was a natural course, particularly as we live in a world that is now taking immense effort to preserve its’ roots, heritage and bring back our ancestral ways of living. While I prepared for the shoot, I realized how much I enjoyed it, and the shoots turned out to be one of the easiest I have ever done. I was admittedly surprised at the ease and comfort I experienced. And even better, I got to wear outfits that felt like second skin – the sari – which I hope are making both my grandmothers up there proud. This may shock you, but I feel much more at ease in a sari than I do in jeans (I can even do a mean garba step in one!).

So this fresh new series on India Food Network’s IFN Vegetarian YouTube Channel consists of simple, easy and yummy Gujarati recipes, that are taken from the old books, childhood memories and grandparents’ remembrance…

And remember, never say never!

The recipes are tried and tested, some are adapted from various places, and a few are passed down; but every one of them comes straight from the heart.
